Wiring an old light fitting

I bought two bronze chandeliers from John Lewis, must be about twenty years ago. One thing I like in rooms is a lot of light. In the Vicarage I have high ceilings. These will look perfect in a couple of the bedrooms. Only one problem, they had been fitted to a modern house previously with low ceilings. the cable and chains were too short!

I rummaged through my old spares box and found the original links from the chains. First problem sorted. I was too lazy to go and use the vice, so I made do with two pairs of pliers, ensuring that I had masking taped the end of them to stop the metal being marked. The metal on the links was soft enough for me to bend it to allow it to be joined to the other part of the chain.

This now meant that the electric cable was now too short! Rather than go for the original gold plastic cable, I found a vintage look woven cable in gold on the internet and in a sale which made it so much the better.

I still need to hang them, but I do prefer the new cable.
