Pushing the beam back in the stable

It looked as if someone in the past had reversed into one of the side supports of the cart room/garage. This had knocked the the beam a few millimetres off true. The answer was to remove a few bricks, clear out the debris and push it back in. To do this a car scissor jack was used.

The wooden down beams, which the doors were fixed to have been taken away. The doors had been missing for years (you can see picture on the stable block section of the main site) and the beams had been exposed to the elements for too long. These wooden down beams have been replaced with brick pillars, using bricks reclaimed from the alterations inside. All the brickwork and pointing is done in lime, to match the original.

We are just waiting for the new French window to be made and fitted. You’ll notice the the cart entrance is now an entrance into a rather nice room (the cart house and tack room have had their dividing wall removed).
