Laying Ruabon Red Pamments

The old Victorian pamments (tiles) lifted from the scullery and pantry are a mixture, the majority being from the Dennis Ruabon factory in Wrexham. These had been relaid on a concrete mix during their life, resulting in the scullery and pantry being on different levels (See the kitchen page on the main site for more details).

Even though many were damaged those that could be saved, have now been relaid in the Victorian Kitchen Garden (see page on main site). They look absolutely fantastic and blend so well with the age of the building.

To clean them off, I used the end of the stone hammer, to scrape excess lime mortar off. As mentioned earlier, some had previously been relaid in cement. For those, I needed to run the grinder down the edge. They are now laid butted upto one another.
