Lifting the pier caps on

Seven pier caps have been added. They were cast for The Old Vicarage from a Victorian design. Although they appear pink, as they weather (which will only take one winter), they will change to a nice brick orange to match the house.

The Pier caps are solid and could not be lifted by four builders. Therefore, a hiab was hired to lift them onto the piers for each wall. Pieces of slate were cut and placed on top of each pier. This allowed the load straps to be slid out from underneath the pier cap after they were lowered. The driver was exceptional and placed all seven caps within two hours with no damage. The driver/operator used a remote control device to control the hiab. This allowed him to be a few feet away as he lowered the pier caps with pinpoint accuracy.

The last job is to point them and get the coping stone on the top of the walls. A job for another day.
