Repairing the lean to

The lean to at the side of the stable had seen better days. The low window/door at the end has been taken out and bricked in, the roof repaired and new guttering added. We have no idea what the low window/door was for. The coal house, log store and outside toilet were all next to the house and have been knocked into a boiler house and utility room.. The only other thought that, is that it was a chicken coup door. Not sure, but will go along with this till advised otherwise.

Rise and fall gutter brackets were used to support the guttering. This is in keeping with the rest of the house. A fascia board, such as those used on modern houses would have looked out of place. I ordered galvanised items and painted them with black hammerite. This saves several pounds per bracket.

The bricks are reclaimed from the house and match. A lime mortar was used to match the original.

The new log store walls and pillars are created at the back of the stable. The wood to build this is oak and came from a tree that came down in the grounds in the storm over a year ago. A mobile sawmill came and cut it to the lengths required.

Picture above – the removal of the old frame caused the arch to collapse.

Picture below – You can see the lean to at the side. you can see the low window/door and also where there had been a low wall, if you look closely you can see the missing bricks on the corner.
