Waxing the sitting room floor

The floor has been sanded lightly (retaining much of its original wear) the final sand being an 80 grit paper. The floor was then hoovered and washed several times before the wax was applied.

This floor, although having some damaged areas, had not suffered the fate of being painted and stained as per the dining room floor. Therefore, the colour being achieved and overall conformity of colour is lighter and only deviates in the hight traffic areas, such as the doorway to the garden, as would be expected.

Fiddes clear wax oil in a semi gloss finish is being used.

If you look hard at the skirting boards, you’ll see they are taped to stop the wax oil getting on them.

I started to use a rather large emulsion type brush. slight problem it wouldn’t fit in the tin! Solution – pour the wax oil into a clean plastic box. Look at the clear wax oil, it has a golden hue to it.

First coat drying – tomorrow it will be given a light buff and then the second coat applied.
