The deer are quite active this time of year rubbing against the trees. If left unchecked, the trees quite quickly die. By all accounts, there is aspirin in some of the bark, especially in willow which they use to rub against their antlers as they are growing.

To save the fruit trees, I initially bought some tree guards online. However, as I had some old wire spare from when the plastering in the house was done, I used the Dremel to chop into sections and made cylinders which I popped round the tree and fastened with some wire I had spare.
