Mulching the flower borders & Bulk buying compost

A few hours spent clearing away weeds and putting a couple of inches of compost around the roses and flower borders. I had ordered in two large 750 cubic litre bags of compost and two of soil for areas that needed building up. Just need to sweep the paths now.

It is quite expensive buying in compost. I did notice that on many of the sites, as soon as you buy more than one, the price drops to nearly half. Buying two was just a few pounds dearer than one. I imagine it is something to do with the delivery cost being the same for one or several.

Several of the sites will do a bulk drop of top soil (a 20 ton load on a tipper truck) straight onto your garden. This was under £300. You also don’t have to get rid of all the bags. However, this is probably too much volume for most gardens.

The minus is that I could do with a 20 ton load of compost each year for the kitchen garden and all the borders, but the only ones I found only sell compost by the drop bag.
