On rainy days, it’s good to work in the workshop and prepare for the Summer party. This year’s party has a French theme and The Old Vicarage will be transformed into a French Town Hall. Perhaps it will be more a “Passport to Pimlico”! For those who remember the 1949 movie, we may declare independence for the day!

The was a hardboard off-cut from last year’s party as well as the last dregs of some Cambridge Blue paint. The letters were printed out and then I used a stanley knife to cut round them to make stencils.

Having run a pencil line for the bottom of the letters, I then placed them on that line and with a black garden marker, traced around the letters. I had to keep the letter spacing very close as I wanted to maximise the size of the letters but, was restricted by the length of the off-cut I had.

Now the part that requires a steady hand. I found an old tin of white paint and a modelling brush.

I found that the best modelling brush to use was one with a square end. To get a good line, I placed the brush flat on and placed a bit of pressure as I was dragging it, which stopped it wandering.

That’s the first coat of white paint on the letters. I put the white dots on to separate the words, as I didn’t have sufficient length on the off-cut to do a space between each word.
