Master Bathroom

The master bathroom was a very austere room. It is a reasonable long, narrow room. The original layout was that as you walked in you had the fireplace to the right and floor to ceiling linen closet on the left. The linen closet’s location in the room made the room feel small. Beyond the linen closet were the toilet, sink and bath. These looked as if they had been replaced in the 1930s. The units were of no merit or design aesthetic.

The bathroom was totally stripped out. and a redesigned. This includes a double sink unit where the old linen closet was. A free standing bath has been positioned now at the far end of the room, under the window. Rather than tile the bathroom, the bottom of the room has been panelled.

Nearly ready – Just waiting for the radiator, dressing table and mirrors.

Restoration

Window – The original window has been repaired.

Renovation

Wrought iron fireplace – This was in reasonable condition and was cleaned and polished.

Fireplace slate surround – The paint was removed and the slate oiled.

Interior design

Panelling – rather than tile the bathroom a number of example of panelling were looked at before settling on the design of two equal sized box panels. The panelling has been size adjusted in places, to cater anomalies in the room, such as pipe boxes. A top rail has been run around the top. This is 25mm in height. It has been designed to be at the same height as the fireplace mantlepiece. If you look at the sink unit, you will see the the splash back was cut to the same height as the fireplace. this means this rail on top of the panelling is the same height, all around the room.

The initial magnolia coat applied, when the room was plastered has now been replaced with a light grey estate emulsion. The Panelling has been painted in a darker grey, Manor House Grey. Both paints were sourced from Farrow & Ball.

The floor was designed to have a border with a gothic arch that separates the darker tiles at the far end of the room. These darker tiles will highlight the white skirted bath when it is installed.
