This room has gone through quite a renovation. including the moving of the door, an ensuite built and a fitted wardrobe. The window was boarded up when we took the house over. In fact quite a lot of the windows and frame were missing. We were told it had been this way for twenty years!

Before the renovation – A bit of a jumble! The interesting item here was the original plank wardrobe in the corner of the room. This wasn’t practical to keep in situ and to make this practical, the carcass would have need to have been enlarged to give it sufficient depth to take coat hangers. A similar plank wardrobe (full room height) has been built at the side of the ensuite.
Room stripped and putting in the stud walls for the ensuite

To the left of the picture is the new ensuite. The actual door to the room was moved three feet forward and a new stud wall erected, This allowed both the ensuite and a fitted wardrobe to be built, without impacting the entry to the room.

Floor lightly sanded, before waxing

The above picture shows the fitted wardrobe that was built on the side of the ensuite. The wardrobe door was reclaimed from the linen closet on the top landing when that was removed. the rest of the wardrobe was made to match it and closely resembles the original plank wardrobe that resided in this room (see earlier pictures on this page).

Some of the work that can be seen in this picture:
- Floors sanded and waxed.
- The fireplace has been taken back to black and the beam has been stripped of paint stained and varnished
Showing the door to the ensuite. This room comfortably takes a five foot bed or two singles.

You’ll notice that there are three double sockets on the wall where the cabinet is and also a low level light switch. This allows the allocation of both a double bed or two single bed configuration on this wall.
Areas to note in the pictures above:
- The slate fireplace had several coats of paint, the last being white. This has been stripped back to the slate and polished. The fireplace insert does not match the others in the house; it is not original. When this was replaced at some point in the history of the house, probably the 1980s or 1990s, whoever did it, managed to crack the slate surround. Rather than remove and replace, this has now been stabilised.
- The plank wardrobe has been removed. You can see from the picture how narrow these were. A new wardrobe has been made next to the new ensuite in this room.
