Spiritual Retreat 31st Oct-2nd Nov 2026

For Halloween and All Souls Day, The Old Vicarage will be open for guests wishing a full-board experience (minimum booking two days).

Bookings can be made over this period by contacting The Old Vicarage directly. The booking price is for two sharing and includes meals and wine (full-board). There will be two psychics/clairvoyants/tarot readers present who will give an individual (30 minute) session to each guest (additional sessions can be negotiated with the reader if required). There will also be an afternoon group session on Saturday and Sunday, which will last upto two hours. For those booking direct the following prices apply:

Two sharing, double room with ensuite – £350 per day

Single occupancy, double room with ensuite – £300 per day.

Note – We usually only accommodate between six and eights guests at a time. An optional single without ensuite (the guest to use the primary booker’s ensuite £200 per night) over the Psychic Retreat weekend.

Paranormal activity

  • The Old Vicarage and church have stood since 1869 (before that there was a wooden church). Since 1869 there have been over 300 funerals in the adjoining cemetery. For the days preceding your booking please have any one that you wish to contact in your thoughts. As this will assist the medium.
  • Currently identified by visiting mediums (all are friendly):
  • The Old Lady – mainly in the Pink bedroom. believed to be a former employee/cook.
  • The Children – Not heard from for a couple of years, since the renovation. The giggling of two children in the small staff stairwell area.
  • The Man in Black – Roams, but mainly in the Dining room, which used to be the Vicar’s study. Believed to be a curate that died in a motorbike accident just after the Second World War.
  • The Suicide – Believed to be in the Grey room. It is believe that there was one suicide in the house, during the war when the house was turned into a refuge. This energy seems to have dissipated since the renovation. The local tale is that his ashes were scattered under the sitting room floor, as he was not allowed to be buried in the churchyard and the service carried out in the house.
  • The Gramophone – Several people have remarked on hearing, what they best describe as an old fashioned gramophone playing, early on a morning, while they are in bed.
  • One notable burial event in the early 1900s reported in the LittlePort Gazette. Methodists it also seems were buried in St John’s churchyard, though their chapel was on the opposite side of the river, with no graveyard. The Vicar of St John’s stopped one funeral procession at the gate to the cemetery and undertook the funeral service of his good friend who was a Methodist. After which he allowed the Methodist Minister to proceed with his funeral service.
  • It is worth noting, that I personally am not a medium/psychic/clairvoyant or have any of those gifts and have never experienced any of the above phenomena in the house. I’ve lived in the house for ten years and slept peacefully in every room.
