The last flourish of the daffodils

Now that the weather is improving, it’s time to spend time getting the gardens organised for the summer period. One of the jobs this week was to continue to deadhead the daffodils and cut the grass. Last autumn I planted many new varieties in groups in the lawn. The last of these are now flowering.

I mow around the clumps of daffodils using the large lawnmower, then use a small electric lawnmower to get as close to them as possible. About six weeks after the last flower fades, i’ll strim these areas and by late June they will be just be another part of the lawn, until the bulbs show through again next spring.
